Bob and his wife Joanne chose Haverhill as their community to purchase a home and raise their family in 1987. In 1994 Bob joined the Haverhill Fire Department after spending many years managing his family-operated ambulance service. Working his first six years as a firefighter, he rose to the rank of lieutenant in 2001. In 2004 Bob was promoted to captain, where he spent the next five years serving as the department’s training officer and shift captain at Water Street and Bradford station.

Promoted to the rank of deputy chief in 2009, he worked the next eleven years as shift commander and supervisor in charge of the department’s fire prevention division. Bob’s participation in the city’s 2016 fire chief’s selection process taught him that in addition to his many years of service to Haverhill residents, formal education played a central role in choosing a candidate. Following the 2016 selection process, he returned to college, obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Fire Science in May of 2019 and his master’s degree in Public Administration in May of 2020. Bob’s forty-plus years working in emergency service, along with his commitment to our community and the Haverhill Fire Department, exemplifies the leadership qualities needed to be chief.
